How to Use the Flashcards

Follow the instructions below to get the most out of using the flashcard set. If you are a German speaker wishing to learn English you can configure the options (top right corner) to have the English words come first.

Sample Flashcard German-English

1. Cycle through the flashcards to familiarise yourself with the German words you know and any new ones to learn.  For added comfort set the flashcards to autoplay.  This can be achieved by clicking on Options (top right corner) and then entering P or by clicking on the autoplay icon at the bottom right of the flashcard frame.
2. On the second time through check the star (top right hand corner) of the German words you want to concentrate on as this will narrow down the list of words to study.
3. The third time through you will notice that only the checked words will be displayed (at any time you can return to the whole set),
4. Keep cycling through the cards continuing to check the ones you are having difficulty with so that you are gradually reducing the pile of words to learn.
5. Once you are confident you have learned the words try one of the games eg Scatter or Race. Scatter involves matching the English term with the corresponding German one while racing against the clock. To play the Race game you need to destroy the scrolling English word by typing the equivalent term in German. To check that you not only can recognise and say the word but spell it too you could try out either the Learn mode or the Speller mode.

6. Finally take the free test. You can test yourself as many times as you like. The test is a mixture of written, matching, multiple choice and true false questions. 
7. Once you have achieved the test grade you are happy with bookmark this page so that you keep returning to it to periodically revise the German words you have learnt.
